Industry Placement Programme 2020/21
Introduction
This year, the following groups will be involved in SMB's 'Industry Placement Programme' alongside their course:
Business Level 3 Year 1 (Group A & B)
IT Level 3 Year 1
Construction and the Built Environment Level 3 Year 1
Engineering Level 3 Year 1
Please familiarise yourself with the Industry Placement Powerpoint for more information on the programme. Please can all students also complete the Industry Placement Preference Form below and send back to Megan Sheridan via email: megansheridan@smbgroup.ac.uk or drop into Student Services.
Due to COVID restrictions, placements may be a bit different and staggered across your 2 years at college, however it is more important than ever in the given climate to achieve industry relevant experience with employers.

Introduction
My Future Careers Quiz is an online resource that allows you to explore your personal interests and future career options.
CV Builder is an online tool that allows you to input personal information before generating your professional looking CV.
Instructions
Follow the instructions detailed in the KUDOS document below to create your personal KUDOS account.
You should then complete the My Futures Careers Quiz as soon as possible, this will help you to begin thinking about different career options that relate to your qualification and personal interests.
Once you have secured or completed a period of work experience you should log into KUDOS and use CV Builder to create a new / amend your existing CV to include details of your placement provider and the type of work you were doing.
Introduction
This letter can be used as a way of introducing yourself to a potential employer or organisation that you would like to volunteer for or gain work experience with.
Your letter is personal to you. It will give the reader a short introduction to the type of person you are, what you are interested in, what you are good at and what you want from your career.
Once completed, your letter can be shared with businesses as a way of ‘applying’ for your work experience.
The provider may then invite you to attend a pre placement interview.
Instructions
Use the Cover Letter Template document as guidance.
The template is laid out in the correct format and also includes hints and tips regarding appropriate information to include.
Once completed make sure you save a copy to your Moodle profile.
We can then print and post to any businesses that make a request.
Introduction
This resource helps you to create a letter asking a business of your choice for work experience.
Instructions
Open the Word document and amend the red type to include specific details about your course of study.
Save the document and use this to introduce yourself to employers asking for a placement. Ensure all contact details are correct.
College staff will complete this with your placement provider to ensure the placement is safe for you to attend.
You will receive a copy of this letter confirming all of your work experience details before you first attend.
