We shall have a lecture from professor Judith tanner, a talk on courses available, course structure, placements etc, plus the chance to chat to current nurses and have a campus tour if desired.
This will be a perfect opportunity to ask any questions and find out the last few details about applying before submitting their UCAS application. There are no other Nursing Open days planned for the near future.
Students need to book a place via the survey monkey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/tasterevents2015

Please see the following about University of Nottingham Taster Days.
Dear all,
I am SO sorry to do this to you again…..but I have realised that our Access Taster Afternoon next week clashes with the University of Derby Access Progression Event and I really don`t want to make students choose which event to attend as I feel it is best for them to go to both events if at all possible. So I have changed (I can`t tell you how sorry I am about this…) the 7th October to Thursday 15th October.
Thursday 15th October, 12.30pm – 3.30pm Subjects: • Arts and Humanities • Psychology • Law • Social Work and Criminology • Engineering • Business
Wednesday 4th November, 12.30pm – 3.30pm Subject: • NURSING
I shall email students individually who have already booked onto the 7th. Can you please ask students to book a place via the survey monkey link for both events: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/tasterevents2015
I sincerely apologise as I realise this is playing havoc with your timetabling/planning. Please forgive me …….i`m going to blame it on age…..
Kindest regards Teresa Access and Vocational Manager Widening Participation Team The University of Nottingham King's Meadow Campus Lenton Lane Nottingham NG7 2NR

**************ATTENDANCE and BEHAVIOUR *************
Hello all Access student, Could I remind everyone that attendance is beginning to drop on the Access course. Please be aware that Attendance is set at 85%. If attendance drops below this you will have to have a disciplinary meeting with possible withdrawal. As you know yourselves the Access course is very busy and Teachers don't get much time to teach the lessons, to catch students up too makes it very difficult! Furthermore ALL lessons are compulsory- Please attend Louise's lessons and ICT.
Also could I ask that talking can be distracting for other students which has been flagged by a few recently. Can you be respectful that others are trying to listen to the information needed to pass the course.
Thanks Ladies and Gentlemen for your continued understanding.
The Access team

Please see the reply from DMU about Nursing and Midwifery entry requirements.
Hi Lucy
Thank you for your email, I am sorry for the late reply but I returned from annual leave this week to a high volume of emails – so just working through! Ok, for the nursing programmes we require all access students to have gained GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above. If students have a minimum of 12 level 3 science credits (biology) this will cover the GCSE science requirement. If the access course does not have enough science, then they will also need GCSE science at grade C or above. They must pass the access course with 60 credits.
I think the confusion is because the entry criteria for the midwifery course is very different to nursing. For midwifery, access students must have 5 GCSEs including maths, English and science at grade C. Two of the 5 GCSEs must be at grade B or above. They must also pass the access course and have achieved 18 distinctions from a minimum of 24 science credits studied.
Due to changes in the access courses across the UK last year, many colleges now only accept students onto the access course if they have 5 GCSEs. If they do not meet this requirement, they have to undertake a pre-access course. So again, students may have heard about this and that might also be adding to the confusion.
I hope that helps. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. We also have an open day tomorrow so if any students have questions, they might want to pop down to our campus between 9:30am – 3pm.
Kind Regards

Hello.
I'm currently researching providers of HE access courses for healthcare in the hope to increase the awareness of a career in podiatry to your students.
We are very active on social media sites https://www.facebook.com/PodiatryCareers @podiatrycareers
We have recently launched our infographic which we want to share with everyone. Is it possible for you to upload it to where you students can see it or print if off to display. http://www.careersinpodiatry.com/opportunitiesintheworldofpodiatry
Do you have a careers adviser I could contact or would you be happy to feature any of our material? It would be great to go further with this.
Thank you for your time, if you have any question please contact me anytime.

Good Morning
STUDY DAYS AND E-LEARNING FOR ASPIRING MIDWIVES AND NURSES
We have attached a flyer which may of interest to any Aspiring Nurse and Midwives that you have. We helped hundreds of students gain University places last year and we are positive about doing the same again this year. Gaining our Certification is highly beneficial for University application, specifically for mention on the UCAS personal statement.
We are holding study days across the UK (please see flyer) This day will include talks from a University Board Member about what Universities are looking for, personal statement advice and interview technique as well as offering sample papers in numeracy and literacy (as used at University assessment days). We will also include talks about "current issues" in Midwifery and Nursing as well as sample lectures in subjects related to these areas.
For those unable to attend, we offer the E Learning in all of our courses Aspiring Nurse and Midwife Contemporary Issues in Midwifery Reduce the Risk of SIDS
We also now offer the E Learning in Infant Loss and Bereavement (this training has been delivered in person by Chantal to student nurses and midwives at Universities across the UK). All information including certification and costs are included in the flyer.
We take students from the age of 15 for the Aspiring Days and can provide you with a wealth of excellent testimonials from colleges and schools across the UK and beyond.
Please kindly distribute our flyer to your students as places are now LIMITED
Kind regards
Millie PA to Dr Chantal Lockey CEO Aspiring Midwife and Nurse Training and The Foundation for Infant Loss Training British Citizen Medallist - Services to Healthcare 2015 Midwifery Educator of the Year Finalist - The British Journal of Midwifery Awards 2014

Dear all,
The University of Leicester has the strongest commitment to widening participation of all Britain's leading universities. We are the only one that has consistently met its targets for recruitment of students from state education and low-income households. Every year we invest millions of pounds in supporting students from disadvantaged backgrounds through our extensive scholarships programme.
Any pupils entering the University of Leicester in September 2015 may be eligible for one of our scholarships so please encourage your students to apply for the following: The Chancellor’s Scholarship • £1,000 towards your tuition fee each year - find out about the Chancellor's Scholarship. • For students who achieve at least AAB in their three best A-levels or equivalent. • Available for all subjects except Medicine. University of Leicester Scholarship • £1,000 cash bursary each year - find out about the University of Leicester Scholarship. • For students who have completed the Realising Opportunities scheme, or whose household income is below £25,000. • Available for all subjects. Care leavers • £2,000 cash bursary each year • For students who have been living in Local Authority care may qualify for the University of Leicester Care Leavers’ Bursary. • Available for all subjects. Please note that the CULN Scholarship no longer exists as a separate scheme and students should apply to one of the schemes above. If you have any questions about our scholarship policies or believe that one of students suffers from disadvantage but would not be considered by any of these schemes please email the University of Leicester at wpworkinggroup@le.ac.uk.
Best wishes, Katie
